How to Pay:
While American Express has offices in Prague and the large hotels
will accept credit cards and may accept travelers' checks, the best
and easiest way to pay is to use your ordinary ATM card. You will get
local currency (the Czech Republic is not using the Euro yet) at an
exchange rate better than most exchange offices. Do change your pin before you leave home to 4 digits only,
or your card will not work in most European ATMs.
Avoiding Pickpockets and Thieves:
Pickpockets are a real problem year-round in Prague, as in many large
European cities these days. This is where precaution can mean the difference
between having a fantastic vacation and a miserable one.
As visitors to Prague arrive in spring,
so do additional thieves. They often, but not always, work
in teams of 3 to 5 people and are quite bold. Unlike in American cities, they are
generally are not armed and are not violent, but neither are they in the
least intimidated by being seen in action.
